With on-metal RFID, yes — a gate or handheld sweep reads everything on a trailer without line of sight. That is the strongest case for RFID in this sector.

How do we allocate plant costs to projects?

Do you tag hired-in equipment?

We would not tag equipment you do not own without the owner's written consent. For your own fleet on hire out, tagging is standard practice and protects you.

Will a tag stop plant being stolen?

Accepted Answer

No, and we will not claim otherwise. A determined thief removes a tag or takes the machine regardless. What a tagged and verified fleet does is tell you precisely what is missing, from where and since when, which is what an insurer and the police both ask for and what a spreadsheet of group entries cannot provide.

How often should a plant fleet be verified?

Quarterly for tools and portable equipment, annually for heavy plant, and at every return from hire for anything that leaves the yard. Frequency is really a labour question, which is why fleets above roughly 2,000 items start looking at RFID: the tag costs more, but a sweep that takes an afternoon can be repeated four times a year without stopping work.

Can tags be fitted to a machine that is already painted or wrapped?

Riveted tags can, since the fixing is mechanical and the finish is irrelevant. Acetone-activated tags should not go onto paint or lacquer you care about, because the activator can affect the finish — we include test tags so you can try an inconspicuous area first, and on livery-wrapped machines we fit to a bare frame member instead.

Do you work at active sites outside Nairobi?

We travel countrywide, but for construction we prefer tagging in your yard during servicing, because an active site is unsafe for a counting team and the count is incomplete anyway. Where site work is unavoidable, transport, accommodation and subsistence are itemised and agreed before anyone travels, with no open-ended charges.
