What happens if someone tries to remove a tamper-evident tag?

It destroys itself. Depending on which type you choose, the tag either fragments into pieces that cannot be reassembled, or it separates and leaves a permanent VOID pattern printed across the asset surface. Either way the attempt is immediately and permanently visible.

What does a tamper-evident tag cost?

Accepted Answer

KSh 55 for 39 × 13 mm, then KSh 9.80 per cm² above that, so KSh 100 at 50 × 20 mm and KSh 145 at 50 × 30 mm. Minimum order 100 pieces, VAT excluded. At the base size it is KSh 5 more than a standard aluminium tag, which is a small premium for a real control.

Which tamper-evident type should we choose?

Accepted Answer

Destructible vinyl fragments on removal and suits smooth equipment housings. VOID polyester leaves a permanent marking on the asset and is the stronger deterrent because the evidence stays visible even after the tag is gone. Tamper-evident aluminium is the most durable option where the environment is harsher. We will recommend based on your asset mix.

Is this the same as a security seal?

Accepted Answer

No. A security seal proves a container or enclosure has not been opened. A tamper-evident asset tag proves the identifier has not been moved from one asset to another. Different problems, though organisations often need both.

Does the VOID pattern damage the asset?

Accepted Answer

It leaves adhesive residue in the pattern shape on the surface. On a laptop lid or an equipment housing this is cosmetic and removable with effort. It is deliberately difficult to clean off, since that is what makes it evidence.

Should we tag all our IT equipment with these?

Accepted Answer

For laptops, tablets, projectors and portable equipment, we would say yes, the whole control value of tagging a portable asset rests on the tag being non-transferable. For fixed desktop equipment and servers that never move, a standard aluminium tag is adequate and cheaper.

Can tamper-evident tags be used outdoors?

Accepted Answer

The aluminium variant, yes. Destructible vinyl and VOID polyester are indoor products and will degrade with sustained UV exposure. If you need a tamper-evident tag on outdoor equipment, tell us and we will specify the aluminium version.

Question 8

Will the tag survive normal handling without triggering?

Accepted Answer

Yes. These tags are engineered to fail under a lifting or peeling force, not under ordinary handling, cleaning or transport. A laptop going in and out of a bag daily will not trigger one.

What do we do when a tamper-evident tag is found damaged?

Accepted Answer

Treat it as an exception and investigate before replacing it. The value of the product is entirely in the response, a damaged tag that is quietly replaced with a new one tells you nothing. Build the exception into your verification procedure before you roll the tags out.

Can we get a tamper-evident tag with our logo?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in full colour at no extra charge, along with the asset number and barcode or QR code. Many organisations also add a "Property of" line or a warning that removal is recorded, which strengthens the deterrent.
