Why can't we just use adhesive on plant and machinery?

Because it will fail, usually within a year. Machinery surfaces carry an oil film that no adhesive bonds through reliably, vibration works at the edges of a tag continuously, and pressure washing finishes it. A mechanically fixed tag is the only one that lasts the service life of the equipment.

How much do riveted tags cost?

They are quoted on specification rather than listed, because thickness, hole configuration and size vary more than on our standard products. Send us the equipment types and quantities and we come back within four working hours.

Question 3

What hole sizes can you punch?

Accepted Answer

We punch to your fastener. Tell us the rivet diameter you use and we match it. If you have not chosen a fastener yet, tell us the equipment and we will recommend one and supply it with the tags.

Question 4

Do you supply the rivets and the rivet gun?

Accepted Answer

Yes to both. Most organisations already have a rivet gun in the workshop, but if not we can supply one with the order so the tagging is not held up waiting for a tool.

Question 5

How many holes should a tag have?

Accepted Answer

Two, at opposite ends, for almost everything. A single rivet lets the tag rotate, which eventually wears the hole and loosens it. Four holes on larger tags in high-vibration positions. We will specify based on where the tag is going.

Question 6

Can riveted tags go on equipment that is under warranty?

Accepted Answer

Drilling into equipment can affect a warranty, so check the terms first. In practice we usually find an existing hole, a bracket, a guard or a non-structural panel to fix to. Tell us which equipment is under an active service contract and we will work around it.

Question 7

Can our own workshop fix these, or do you have to?

Accepted Answer

Your workshop can, easily, it is drilling and riveting, not specialist work. What matters more is consistency of placement, so that every grader has its tag in the same position and a verification sweep is not a treasure hunt. We supply a placement guide with the order.

Question 8

Is riveting the only option for oily machinery?

Accepted Answer

It is the reliable one. Acetone-activated tags will hold on a cleaned, flat control panel or housing, and we often specify that for the clean parts of a machine and riveted tags for the dirty ones. But if the surface cannot be got properly clean and kept clean, rivet it.

How long do riveted tags last?

Accepted Answer

Longer than the adhesive question makes relevant, the tag is anodised aluminium, so 9+ years outdoors and typically the full service life of the machine. The failure mode for a riveted tag is the equipment being scrapped, not the tag coming off.

Question 10

Can we rivet onto scaffolding and small components?

Accepted Answer

Onto scaffolding tube, usually not, there is no flat face and the wall is thin. Scaffolding is normally managed by count rather than individually, unless you are hiring it out. For hire fleets we would look at a banded or welded plate instead, and we will advise rather than sell you the wrong product.
