How much do aluminium barcode asset tags cost?

Our 39 × 13 mm tag is KSh 50 each, excluding VAT, with a minimum order of 100 pieces. Larger sizes are priced by area at KSh 8.00 per cm², so 50 × 20 mm is KSh 80, 50 × 30 mm is KSh 120 and 60 × 30 mm is KSh 145. Your logo in full colour, sequential numbering and barcode encoding are all included at no extra charge.

Why is the 60 × 30 mm tag nearly three times the price of the 39 × 13 mm one?

Because it is nearly three and a half times the material and print area. We price every size above our 39 × 13 mm base at KSh 8.00 per cm² of tag face, which means the arithmetic is the same for everyone and you can work out any size yourself before you contact us. Most organisations find 39 × 13 mm or 50 × 20 mm does everything they need.

How long do these tags actually last?

Nine years or more outdoors under normal conditions, and considerably longer indoors. Actual life depends on UV exposure, chemical exposure, the surface it is fixed to and the adhesive system used. Indoors, on office furniture and IT equipment, the tag will almost always outlast the asset.

What temperature range do they withstand?

-40°C to +120°C, which covers every environment in Kenya including vehicle engine bays, cold rooms and equipment that runs hot. For sustained temperatures above 120°C you need our stainless steel tags instead.

Will the barcode still scan in five years?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The barcode is printed into the anodised layer and sealed, rather than printed on top of it, so it cannot be rubbed off the way a thermal-transfer label can. We verify readability on every production run before the tags leave us.

Which barcode format do you print?

Accepted Answer

Code 128 as standard, which is the most widely supported symbology and handles alphanumeric asset numbers efficiently. We can also print Code 39, QR Code or Data Matrix. Tell us which system will read the tags and we will match it.

Question 7

What can go wrong with aluminium tags?

Accepted Answer

Three things, and it is fair to know them up front. They need a reasonably flat surface, a curved tool handle or a cable will not take one, and you want polyester there. They can be prised off with a blade if someone is determined, so for theft-sensitive IT equipment use tamper-evident tags. And on oily or vibrating machinery, adhesive will eventually fail, which is what riveted tags are for.

Can you match our existing asset numbering?

Yes. Send us your numbering convention, prefix and starting number and we print sequentially from there. If you already have a register, send the tag number column and we print to match it exactly, so nothing has to be re-keyed.

Can we order fewer than 100 tags?

Accepted Answer

Not at these prices. Setup, artwork and plate costs are fixed regardless of run length, so below 100 pieces the per-tag cost stops making sense for either of us. If you need a very small batch, talk to us, we will quote it, but it will not be at list price.

How quickly can you deliver?

Accepted Answer

Up to 200 tags, same day. Up to 1,000 tags, two working days. Up to 5,000 tags, three to five working days. All lead times run from artwork approval rather than from your order, so the fastest way to speed things up is to approve the proof quickly.
