Asset tagging for hotels, lodges and camps

Guest-facing assets need a tag that is discreet and durable. We fix tags on undersides, backs and inside surfaces where guests will not see them but a scanner can reach. The 39 × 13 mm aluminium tag at KSh 50 is the standard choice here.

Coastal and lakeside properties should use acetone-activated aluminium throughout. Salt air is corrosive and humidity defeats ordinary adhesive; a permanently bonded tag rated to 9+ years outdoors is the right investment.

Kitchen and laundry equipment faces heat, steam, grease and daily cleaning. Acetone-activated aluminium again, or stainless steel for equipment in sustained high heat.

Pool plant, generators and grounds equipment take riveted tags.

In-room electronics — televisions, safes, tablets — take tamper-evident tags. These are the assets that move.

Back-office furniture takes polyester at KSh 35.

Tag during the low season, and tag rooms as they come out of service for routine maintenance. In a property running at 80% occupancy, room-by-room tagging during the maintenance rotation is the only workable approach.

If a refurbishment is planned, tag before it starts. A refurbishment is when assets move, get replaced and disappear, and a register taken afterwards cannot tell you which happened.

Beyond the accounts, a hotel register answers three recurring questions. What is the replacement cycle telling us — which rooms are due, and what will it cost? What is actually covered on the insurance schedule, at what value? And after a refurbishment, what was disposed of, what was transferred to another property, and what is unaccounted for?

A register with acquisition dates, costs, conditions and locations answers all three as reports. One without them answers none.
