Metal surfaces (unless the tag is specifically metal-mount rated), liquids nearby, and thick concrete or masonry between reader and tag all reduce or block the radio signal. Assets stored close together in high density can also cause read collisions, so layout and material both matter more than with barcode scanning.

No, RFID readers only detect RFID tags, which contain an embedded chip and antenna that standard barcode or QR tags don't have. You would need to re-tag your assets with RFID tags to use this equipment, which is a significant additional cost.
