Is this fixed asset register template aligned with IAS 16?

Accepted Answer

It gives you the columns IAS 16 expects you to track: asset class, cost, acquisition date, depreciation method, useful life, location and verification status. It does not replace your accounting policy. Your finance team still sets the depreciation rates, residual values and capitalisation threshold, then fills the template with real figures.

What asset numbering format should our organisation use?

Accepted Answer

Use a short organisation prefix, an optional branch code, a category code and a fixed-width number, such as ORG-NRB-ICT-0001. Keep it under about fourteen characters so it fits a 39 by 13 mm tag. Never reuse a number after disposal, and keep categories few enough that staff remember them.

Do we really need a check digit on asset tags?

Accepted Answer

Usually not for scanned barcodes, because Code 128 already has its own internal check. A check digit helps when staff type numbers by hand during audits or into an ERP, since a single mistyped digit is then caught. Luhn suits numeric parts; Mod 43 suits Code 39 systems.

Is our asset list uploaded to Nicetags when we use this tool?

Accepted Answer

No. Pasting, uploading and cleaning all happen inside your browser and nothing is sent to our servers. Your asset numbers only reach us if you choose to email or submit the cleaned list for a quote. That makes the tool safe for confidential registers from banks, hospitals and government bodies.

Why does the tool flag gaps in our sequence?

Accepted Answer

A gap means a number between your first and last tag is missing from the list. Sometimes that is fine, for example a disposed asset, but auditors will ask about it. Gaps also often reveal typing errors or rows lost during spreadsheet copying, so check each one before ordering printed tags.

Can I clean an Excel register directly?

Accepted Answer

Save the sheet as CSV, then upload it, or copy the asset number column and paste it in. The tool reads the first column, trims hidden spaces, converts to uppercase, highlights duplicates and unsupported characters, and lets you download a clean list or a full register template.

Question 7

Is this tool enough to pass a fixed asset audit?

Accepted Answer

No, and it would be misleading to say so. Auditors need physical verification that each register line exists, is tagged and is in the recorded location. This tool prepares clean data and numbering; the audit still requires counting, tagging and reconciliation. We can run that verification exercise for you.

How many tag numbers can I process at once?

Accepted Answer

Up to 2,500 numbers per run, which covers most branches, schools and departments in one pass. For larger estates, split the register by branch or category and run each part separately. We print sequences of any length, so a 20,000-tag rollout is no problem on our side.
